Hi Pat,

To quote from the paper

" The DAM, on the other hand, allows a single modem to be shared among multiple users dynamically, similar to an Ethernet architecture. In essence, the DAM provides a CSMA/CD-like MAC interface to a pool of modems, so that the total number of subscribers using their ADSL connection can exceed the number of actual modems. "

It is shown in the diagrams between the POTS splitter and the DSLAM.
