The fact that whoever wrote the post had the effrontery to call Bolsheviks "conservative" shows how dubious all of the observations of the post are. One of the fathers of modern conservatism was Edmund Burke, who opposed the slave trade and supported the American Revolution. His opposition to the course of the French Revolution made him one of the primary figures of European conservatism, as opposed to reaction. Similarly, Dr. Samuel Johnson, a notable conservative, supported the American Revolution and held slavery as an abomination.
Lincoln considered himself a conservative, upholding the Union and its principles, and denouncing John Brown for taking the law into his own hands. Bismarck, the great conservative chancellor of Prussia and a united Germany, was the first to institute social security legislation and other programs to help the working class. Disraeli, the greatest Tory prime minister of the 19th century, sponsored the enlargement of the franchise to include those without property qualifications.....Well, anyway, it is rather disappointing that you should pass on such a load of crap...... |
