Hi Robert,

I am just as nonplussed as you are! I think a little of everything you have mentioned is
possibly true.

Those who indulge in massive short selling are taking calculated risks. They could be in
for a rude awakening if the market makes a strong turnaround soon. But as this doesn't
seem likely until the fall, they probably figure they still have lots of time to cover etc.

Just imagine this: yesterday a relatively large brokerage house sold off a HUGE chunk
of a stock they had given financing to about a month earlier! That brokerage house was
expected to support the stock but even they felt 'obliged' to dump it like a hot potato!
What a HUGE disappointment and a stab in the back! Yes, the big brokerages are
selling (crosstrading): essentially they are playing 'games' to try and panic the small guys
into selling to them (directly or indirectly) on the cheap!

"Who can we trust?" is a question asked by many an investor these days. Perhaps
many would-be investors are still waiting for the final scandal to emerge and its
accompanying fallout to clear before buying again.

P.S. Am not putting all the blame on the brokerage houses. The current price of gold is
not helping. According to some market watchers, the price of gold looks like it is
"struggling to bottom out" which some investors interpret as being still far off beyond
the immediate horizon! Looks grim, does'nt it?
