Using less of a resource does not prolong the period of time that resource is available for use.

Of course it does; however, savings from conservation are immaterial, as I said.

This dual problem of resource depletion and the fouling of the air will resolve itself as depletion occurs and prices go up. It is sort of simple.

Exactly. Absent a fluke, you will have to deplete the current supply, forcing prices up, which is what will make those alternative sources "cost effective". It's called the free market system, and you'll learn it is very effective. I know it is a radical change from the socialism you're so fond of, but you'll get used to it.
