Is it possible to take a capital loss on real estate? i.e. let's say I put 100k down on a property that was worth 500k and borrow the remaining 400k. However, I sell it for 470k (minus 30k in commissions makes it 440k). So my investment of 100k turns into 40k :-(( Am I allowed to take the 60k as a tax loss and am I allowed to offset it against my income and/or my stock-market gains?
