There are SEVERAL, million oz sized deposits that can be scooped up for up to approx.US$20 US per oz in the ground. Money always talks, and ABX has the money/leverage/lines of credit/in with the LME-bullion banks that has always talked loudly and will continue to do so. Look at their track-record.

There is NO answer to your rhetorical question about who, where and why that you are trying to gain from me by "turning the tables" and asking me to name names so that you can show how much you think you know about everyone's business. I'll toss out one in a minute and let you wax eloquent...it's a shame to let such a challenge go unrequited<g>

Simply put:
You are repeating the "tough talking" of smaller outfits and what they are "saying" NOW.
They have to say whatEVER makes them sound good so they can still try to raise exploration money in this tough TOUGH environ, to both the press, the analysts, and the shareholders of record.

And for you to be so naive as to infer that you know basically all there is to know about who/what company is available, i.e., on ABX's potential take over list is a staggeringly arrogant assumptive statement to make on this thread in particular.

Can't believe you didn't expect someone of my caliber/experience/research/connections or those even more knowledgeable & connected than even I, (yes, there's a few out there...LOL, to pick up on that utterance of yours and come back with a "WHOA, there, hotshot!" rejoinder.

My point is this:
THEY, ABX, will have an abundance of candidates from which to "select" if/when your "hypothesized THEN" occurs should they need to acquire more drill proven reserves--- as you clearly stated, "in order continue their increasing forward hedge book offsets, ostensibly to "lessen the price impact" of delivering into the current hedgebook and delta risk [layoffs].

Since HME is basically their one MAJOR acquisition in the last oh, let's be fair and say last 5-ish years, and ABX's been playing the plugged in derivatives game with the CBs for about 11 years or so. Therefore, I can drily assert that ABX is not in any imminent danger of either "forgetting how to manage their forward deriv positions out 6 -10 years" OR "running out of candidates with whom to merger with or acquire should the "need arise in the next 6-10 years! To believe or categorically state otherwise is ridiculous!

BARRICK has an ENTIRE globe from which to select their reserve acquisition candidates. That includes some of the old USSR, some China plays, one or two in Peru, the ALWAYS strapped for money Cuban plays, etc., etc., etc. So, unless you have some CIA operative connections or some such, I'd reign in that tremendous ego of yours and take another look around.

I can think of one right now they've "over looked," but I'm busy building a personal position in it, as well as that of my offspring. And we're NOT building our positions at these deflated levels because we expect/hope/WAG that ABX will come a knockin'...no, not hardly. It's simply not on the radar screens of your ilk and alot of the other wannabee equity leverage crowd hanging out around SI.

And then there's the likes of miserably, struggling, despised Clive for example. He can say what he wants, but he's damn near broke by mining operation standards, and Refuse to Go was run into the frigging ground.

And there's the hopefuls of KRY...<ROFLMAO>

At some point, human nature plus shareholder pressure and Clive'll cave to the likes of the ABX. And his name is legion as more and more drill proven reserves are mothballed and more and more exploration budgets are whittled or outright cancelled. As more and more databases are quietly built and more and more backroom bribes are paid off to get at that reserve calc info going on behind closed doors, ABX and their ilk will have more and more "to choose from." So, you just keep thinking you know all there is to know about their "most likely targets" du jour, and I'll keep building a position in one they've overlooked, and monitor the "macro view."

ABX has a acquistion studded history that shows their brand of "acquisition proposal(s)" have definite clout in the boardroom, despite what is being whispered in your ear.

Are you trying to flaunt your "insider knowledge" and thusly infer that you knew the Homestake deal was in the offing?
