Re: "This is hardly evidence of savings from conservation. Perhaps you are confusing "conservation" (i.e., finding more efficient ways of doing things) and "doing without" (i.e., turning off the A/C and sweating it out). These are two totally different things."

Your ignorance is showing.

Here is a personal example of how to save electrical power, 20 % down from a year ago according to my PG&E bill:

o Turn off the Monitor on old PC's that don't have that function in the OS and monitor.

o Act like a demon in turning off the lights whenever possible (and harassing my family to do the same). Don't burn the kitchen lights when you are watching TV, don't leave the bathroom lights on, etc., etc. My family -- Democrats all -- changed their habits and happily joined the effort.

o Replace most incandescent light bulbs with energy saving fluorescent bulbs -- use 1/4 the power of incandescent last, for 5 to 7 years (10,000 hrs), pay for the high initial cost in about 2 years. The California stores can barely keep the energy saver bulbs in stock because of those conserving demons in stock.

This worked in the months before the A/C was used. Now that the A/C is being used in the summer just turn the temp up to 75 when you are home, off when you are not home. That works too.
