Hey, X. Hugs backatcha. I'm feeling all tweaked about abortion rights, but also about the weakness of existing sex ed programs. The wage of ignorance for two kids I know is pretty heavy. I don't know what they are teaching in HS sex ed, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

This couple, young friends of mine, both 20 years old, is pregnant. They wanted an abortion, but she has a medical condition that kept her from menstruating for extended periods (oops) and by the time she figured it out and had an ultrasound, she was in her fourth month, and chose to keep the baby.

What really gets me is this: Even though they're 20 and HS grads, they didn't seem to take delivery (oops again) on the idea that a woman can get pregnant without had a period for months, years, or for that matter EVER. They seemed to think that you can't get pregnant if you haven't been having periods, and that each period is linked to ovulation two weeks later, rather than the period period resulting from previous ovulation. There must be a simpler way to state it, but they did not "get" that for a woman having regular sex, even if she hasn't had a period, it's like roulette, and by the time you find out, choices can be much limited.

In the same theme, my girlfriend confided that while she knew her son was sexually active, he had made some comment that revealed that thought that the female urethra is inside the vagina. She went out and bought him some books, but it's the same kind of ignorance about anatomy and physiology. Blue Lagoon fantasies aside, how much fun can it be to be with a guy who thinks he's ramming the piss hole? Ignorance is not bliss.
