SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2001--Starbase Corp. (Nasdaq:SBAS - news), the leading provider of end-to-end collaborative products for both the development and management of content and code for e-business applications, today announced the scheduled release date of Aug. 15, 2001 for the StarbaseMPX Server, developed to enhance the performance of StarTeam and dramatically extend the scalability of the Starbase Server.
StarbaseMPX Server accelerates the velocity of information exchanged between StarTeam clients and the Starbase Server by employing an advanced publish/subscribe messaging architecture. The Starbase server posts new information to the StarbaseMPX Server and clients automatically receive the information they need.
``With the release of the StarbaseMPX Server, our customers will have access to enormous scalability improvements,'' stated James H. Smith, executive vice president, Starbase Customer Group. ``New communication technology has enabled improved performance for StarTeam, which will ultimately result in enhanced developer productivity. These performance enhancements will have a significant effect on the calculated cost of ownership that is so critical in meeting the budgetary requirements of today's development organizations.''
``The StarbaseMPX Server for StarTeam 5.1 is just the first of a number of progressively significant Starbase releases and the only configuration management solution to employ this highly efficient architecture,'' stated William R. Stow III, president and CEO of Starbase. ``Improved scalability and performance are just the first benefits of Starbase's MPX technology. This product represents a platform that will eventually support enhanced search and reuse of digital assets in StarTeam, Caliber and eXpressroom repositories as well as improved integration between the Starbase server and other products.''
The StarbaseMPX Server employs Talarian's SmartSockets technology (the same messaging technology that drives today's message-intensive online stock exchanges), enabling real-time scalable data delivery to StarTeam. Updated information from the StarbaseMPX Server is broadcast to StarTeam 5.1 clients automatically using publish/subscribe technology.
New caching capability in the StarTeam 5.1 client enables faster access to data by facilitating automatic delivery of new and updated information to the user. By reducing demand on the Starbase Server, client caching also increases the number of active sessions that can be effectively managed in a single server environment.
Benefits of the StarbaseMPX Server
Reduced network load: The advanced architecture of MPX reduces both the work the Starbase Server must do and network bandwidth requirements. This combination substantially speeds many operations, particularly for large installations.
Increased server capacity: The reduced load incurred by clients frees-up more server capacity and allows the server to support substantially more sessions simultaneously.
Real-time updates: StarTeam 5.1 clients receive updates from the StarbaseMPX Server in real-time, rather than requiring periodic round-trip (request/response) calls to the server. A new ``instant refresh'' capability allows StarTeam users to immediately view new information.
Improved Client Performance: The StarTeam client caching stores data on the client workstations permitting faster retrieval and more responsive overall operations.
