Perhaps this is true, but is this in units shipped or dollar volume? If they need a certain size in dollar volume, then sacrificing revenues for unit market share is suicidal.

Additionally, I warned them years ago about the dangers of a price war. If Intel were selling 1.0 GHz PIII for $600, and AMD were selling it for 20% less at $480, the difference in price would be $120. If Intel sells the 1.0 GHz PIII for $200 and AMD sells the 1.0 GHz Athlon for $100, the difference in price is only $100. Which scenario leads to a larger difference in price for retail systems and greater market share gain?
