BroadJump Secures Strategic Investment From SBC Communications, BellSouth Corporation and Nortel Networks
AUSTIN, TEXAS, JULY 30, 2001 (CCN Newswire via COMTEX) -- Companies Collaborate to Advance the Fulfillment of Value-added Services to Consumers Over Broadband
BroadJump, Inc., the leading provider of software solutions for the intelligent fulfillment of broadband services, today announced that SBC Venture Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of SBC Communications, BellSouth Corporation and Nortel Networks have participated in the company's third round of funding worth $22 million. In addition to advancing its solution offerings, BroadJump will use these new funds to support worldwide expansion and to drive its leadership position in broadband service fulfillment.
BroadJump's strong financial backing from broadband market leaders demonstrates the industry's heightened interest in software solutions that help broadband service providers move beyond just the installation and management of basic high-speed Internet access. Increasingly, service providers are turning to solutions that take them closer to profitability by leveraging broadband as a channel to deliver the revenue-generating services most highly demanded by consumers such as virus-protection, firewall solutions and video-on-demand. Cahners In-Stat, an Arizona-based research firm, forecasts total worldwide broadband service revenues to reach $37 billion by 2005.
"SBC's investment is based on BroadJump's history of continued success in transforming broadband from a simple, always-on connection to an interactive tool consumers can use to change the way they live, work and play," said Abha Divine, vice president of strategy for SBC Communications. "The combination of BroadJump's advanced technology platform and our shared vision makes this investment a natural fit."
In little more than two years, BroadJump has established customer relationships with the industry's leading service providers, which together account for more than 60 percent of the North American broadband market. With its flagship product, Virtual Truck(R) Installer, BroadJump is fulfilling high-speed access for more than 8,000 broadband consumers a day and is managing more than 500,000 connections with its connection management solution, CorrectConnect(TM). This success, combined with an impressive list of strategic investors, solidifies BroadJump's leadership position in driving the industry from the fulfillment of basic high-speed access to enabling the delivery of multiple broadband services over the first mile.
"BellSouth is committed to providing consumers with a top-notch broadband experience and our investment in BroadJump and our implementation of the PC Qualification, Virtual Truck Installer and Connection Manager tools illustrates this commitment," said Ralph de la Vega, president of BellSouth broadband, Internet and data services. "BroadJump has shown an in-depth knowledge of the challenges associated with broadband and has consistently delivered innovative solutions to meet those challenges and help us enhance our customer experience. We look forward to evolving our relationship to continue to meet the needs of our BellSouth(R) FastAccess(R) DSL customers."
"Since inception, BroadJump has focused on enabling service providers to derive value from their investment in broadband networks," said Kip McClanahan, president and chief executive officer of BroadJump. "With the support of companies such as SBC, BellSouth, and Nortel Networks, we can enable - for the first time - a revenue-generating channel over broadband by which service providers can deliver digital goods and services."
BroadJump's third round of investment brings the company's total funding to $47 million. Investors from BroadJump's earlier rounds also contributed to this latest funding event including Accel Partners, Austin Ventures, PCG Ventures and Techxas Ventures.
