Ledgerwatchman, I have been focusing on the possibility of a joint effort of WSTL and a fixed point wireless equipment co. to go after potential DSL customers that because of distance or line of site obstructions can’t be reached
Wireless broadband could get WSTL to neighborhoods that are out of DSL reach. Once there though, wireless may not be practical because of localized line of site problems that make it difficult to transmit fixed point broadband wireless around the neighborhood. By converting the signal to DSL and distributing it over copper this would be a better way to get broadband around the neighborhood.
WSTL could also resell WI-FI transmitters to customers that have notebooks computers fitted with WI-FI wireless cards, for access to wireless broadband around the house. WI-FI is now used by business and sales people while on the road in hotels that provide WI-FI wireless broadband access.
If such a model worked well, it might be adapted to hooking up customers outside the country in those areas where the phone system might support DSL.
What would be great is if WSTL could form an alliance with various equipment co.s to offer a more comprehensive broadband approach to customers at the edge.
I have never really followed 3COM, but they seem to be offering top to bottom broadband infrastructure solutions that can be installed now through out the world. With value added solutions, maybe a WSTL group could act as a subcontractor that helps the 3COMS of the world meet their global objectives. With everyone hurting, large and small and resources stretched, alliances like this may be welcomed.
I just talked to a Verizon rep, I now have access to DSL. This rep. Is just beyond the reach of DSL, she would love to have DSL, this model of integrating DSL and fixed point wireless broadband, maybe a much larger idea than we realize in terms of the numbers of customers that could be reached in this country alone.
Hey if I have helped push WSTL in a profitable direction, I’ll take a $100,000.00 consulting fee in stock, that’s cheap, and I could use it. Not to mention that I have fallen behind my responsibilities, to pursue this line of thinking. |
