SB: To be concise, it is not clear that you have a point. To use the "car" example, productivity is MPG, but if I cannot measure gas input I could use dollar equivalents if I know the price of gas. It changes nothing. If my knowledge of gas prices is imperfect then I will be somewhat inaccurate. But it does not make MPG a "dollar" phenomenon.

So far as I can see, you blame Greenspan for the "new economy bs" because you argue that he changed the way we measure gdp in a way which is a less accurate approximation for actual output. That might or might not be the case. I was waiting for you to say something which might shed light on your assertion. Instead you have displayed little in the way of understanding of the meaning of the topic. If you want to educate us on this issue, please be specific about your gripe with the chain weighted measures that you deplore. Why is it more of a distortion that the measurement approach it replaces?
