Sunnyvale, California, July 31 (Bloomberg) -- Macrovision
Corp. shares fell 22 percent after the maker of copyright-
protection computer software said third-quarter profit will be
less than analysts' estimates.
The Sunnyvale, California-based company expects to earn 20
cents to 22 cents a share this quarter, excluding amortization and
other items. On that basis, it's expected to earn 22 cents, the
average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Thomson
Financial/First Call.
Macrovision sells software that prevents the pirating of
videotapes and CD-ROMs. The company last year paid $957.6 million
in stock for Globetrotter Software Inc., which makes products that
deliver corporate software over the Internet.
Shares of Macrovision fell $13.24 to $48.33. They have fallen
36 percent in the past year.
