Your Physics Prof gets paid to answer dumb questions. On SI, posters get "paid" by exchanging useful facts and opinions with each other. I educate you, you educate me. This exchange is only useful, if you bring something to trade with me. Also, anything anyone tells you on SI, you should be checking from independant sources. Don't assume anyone knows what they are talking about. If you aren't checking everything yourself, it's like playing poker without looking at your cards (or trusting the other players to tell you what cards you're holding). Hard to win the game that way.

From your bio, you say you started buying individual tech stocks in the summer of 2000. You say Brocade is one of your favorite stocks. Yet you don't know that EMC is not a chip company. There are a lot of investors like you, dilettantes who entered the market in the late stages of the mania. Before the market finds a bottom, I think you are all going to have to give up in despair and get out. This is an ugly truth. I hear the brokers are advertising bonds.

Stockpicking is not a game where people with IQs of 120 beat people with IQs of 100. But it is a game where people who spend 800 hours studying a stock, consistently beat people who spend 8 hours (or 8 minutes) studying a stock. This is hard work, and you shouldn't be relying on anyone to do it for you.
