Every segment of Big Business is after the short-term profit. Nobody is thinking long-term anymore. I see it at work every day. Raise prices, downsize the workforce, shrink the product, cut corners, try to steal a little money from the workers' pension fund. Then repeat process all over again. Big Business CEOs only worry about meeting forecasts for next three or four quarters so they can pocket 7-figure bonuses. The end result could be an economic downturn much more severe than anyone is expecting because of corporate myopia combined with old-fashioned greed.
