" JOHANNESBURG – Gold Fields [JSE:GFI; NASDAQ:GOLD] has urged the South African government to refocus its mineral and energy policies to allow offshore expansion of gold companies rather than restrict skills to the local industry which had "geological limitations". Speaking at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, a business school in Johannesburg, Gold Fields chairman Chris Thompson also responded to earlier comments by the South African minister of energy and minerals that the industry should be transformed into a black-owned sector.
