The two liberal SC justices who found that the recount was "unfair" were acting consistently with their principles, for they believe that the USSC can overrule state courts even regarding state law.

The conservatives, who have stated and ruled in many cases that state supreme courts should be the final arbitors of state law (even if the USSC disagrees with them), acted in opposition to their own principles, as Justice Ginsberg noted in her dissent.
