Re: results of our benchmark tests

You're comparing $3,000 notebooks with high end video cards with $2,000 notebooks with minimal video. And video cards heavily impact some of the benchmarks used. In all fairness, they may also impact battery life.

The Athlon 4's performance has been fully documented in other tests (as I'm sure you're aware).

What was amazing in those tests was that the "power hungry" Athlon 1GHZ was getting over 3 hours in the battery test while some of the "super efficient" PIII's were getting about 2 1/2 hours.

I, personally, was flabbergasted. I was expecting less than 2 hours out of the GHZ Athlon 4's, I was worried that it would have trouble getting much over an hour. I was not expecting over 3 hours. And I suspect that you weren't either.

Those on-battery runtimes for the GHZ Athlon 4 were home-runs out of nowhere, and I think we both know it.

And that's from AMD's .18 process without SOI, and one of SOI's main benefits is power savings. SOI starts production at year end.

Intel may be almost completely out of the notebook business by this time next year. P4 does not look like a good core for mobile designs - it's kind of the reverse of when the early Athlons were trying to compete with PIII in notebooks and couldn't do it.
