President Bush Issues Order to Slay Energy Vampires
Power Integrations Offers ICs to Meet the President's New Energy Efficiency Standards
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jul 31, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Power Integrations, Inc. (Nasdaq: POWI chart, msgs) today announced that it offers a full line of power conversion ICs that can aid manufactures in their efforts to make more energy efficient electronic products. Today, President Bush signed an executive order promoting reduced power consumption in almost all household electronics and appliances purchased by the Federal government. Under the new rules, these devices could consume no more than one watt per hour when the appliances were not in use.
According to studies for the Energy Department conducted by the Berkeley National Laboratories, standby power consumption adds up to almost seven percent of residential energy consumption. This energy consumption is equivalent to the power generated by 26 average-size power plants.
"Our EcoSmart(TM) chips, which were first introduced in 1998, can help electronics and appliance manufacturers cost effectively meet the new standards," said Balu Balakrishnan president and chief operating officer of Power Integrations. "In addition to pulling the plug on energy 'vampires,' these chips enable power supplies to be smaller and lighter better matching today's portable on-the-go electronics."
