Try tea. there are hundreds of varieties so you're sure to find some you like, it's delicious, it's healthy with lots of flavenoids, and it's easier to make by the cup than coffee.
Do not sucker for teabags if you can avoid it. Instead, buy loose tea and brew it in a teapot or in the cup in a strainer.
If you don't know of a good source for teas and supplies, try Upton Tea Imports; call 800-234-8327 for a catalog, or visit www.uptontea.com. I use their replacement infuser basket, the 4-cup size, in my tea mug and it works like a champ. Or you can spring for the single unit infuser mug with its own basket, but why pay the extra is my opinion if you already have a mug you like. I prefer making it by the cup to making it by the pot since a) I can drink different teas all day (most days I start with an Assam with milk and sugar, then move on to Darjeelings, Yunnans, Congus, and other similar teas as the mood strikes. In the afternoon I often toss in a cup of Baker Street with some lapsang in it -- I don't like pure lapsang, too strong a smoky flavor for me, but I like it in blends. Also during the afternoon I often have a cup or two of some of their best jasmines -- there's a lot of variety between jasmines, and you need to get a good one.
If you haven't tried real tea for a while (not Lipton or that stuff, which is the box wine of the tea world, but real tea from a real tea merchant), do so.
The other upside is that it's a LOT cheaper per cup than coffee! |
