Check out this comment from the ML upgrade:

The Merrill team also talked up some of the larger makers of equipment used in the production of microchips, which have seen their sales plunge as chip makers cut back budgets for new equipment.

Merrill chip equipment analyst Brett Hodess said that while capital spending may decline even further in 2002, investors had already factored that weakness into the share prices.

How is that factored into the stock prices when NVLS, KLAC and LRCX are near 52 week highs? And the valuation ratios are that high? I want what this guy is smoking, business gets worse in 2002 and now is the time to buy. Yeesh!
