As I said earlier the piece of paper is a visible representation for the conditions of marriage.

If you understand that the piece of paper is a visible representation for the conditions of marriage, then you can understand that the conditions of marriage can exist independent of that paper. Just as the paper can exist when the parties are deviating from the conditions. It's the conditions that are important, not the paper. It's the love and trust and devotion, not the paper.
