I see no evidence that the nation has prospered because it is predominately Christian, but there is evidence that some have suffered from it. Since you are talking specifically about Christianity, you are therefore talking about the worship of Christ, ie God #2, Some examples of people suffering due to Christianity are:
1. Religious discrimination, ie" my form of Christianity is better than your form of Christianity or other religions or non-religions in the country and therefore I am a better person than you." Many Christians believe that a person without their beliefs cannot be a moral person or have family values..
2. There have been heinous murders because someone says that Jesus or God told them to do it.
3. There have been children who have died from being denied medical care because of their parents Christian beliefs.
4. There are people who have been denied jobs and housing because they are not Christian.
5. There are people who have been denied memberships in social clubs because they are not Christian.
6. There are children who cannot join the Boy Scouts because their sexual orientation is not what their Christian organization wants them to be.
7. Christian children, eg Catholics, have in the past been taught that Jews are inferior to them.
8. Many Christian organizations, eg churches and clubs largely in the South now, I think, deny membership to blacks. Jews are still denied membership in clubs and suffer housing discrimination. The KKK is a Christian organization.
9. The Catholic church denies the priesthood to women, ie job discrimination.
10. Christianity's Sunday Blue Laws, which were very common until about 20 years ago and which are still in effect in many places in the country, deny businesses the right to open for business or sell certain items on a Sunday. Wasn't too long ago,for example, you couldn't go to a movie on a Sunday.
So it is my observation that the nation does suffer because it is a Christian nation. It might suffer more if it were an Islamic nation but you asked about it being a Christian nation. |
