They have to tighten their belts and only do merchandising.

Turn over and then turn over. Old merchandise saturated the local market. They have to have new styling apparels. New small appliances. School furniture(plastic boxes) for students, etc.

Their core customers are senior citizens, low income citizens and students. Discount stores are all bellying up. Not enough business or not enough margin. Ames claims they have the margin so they don't have the business. They don't have business because they don't have new merchandise.

If you look at the supermarkets, prices are up but new door busters are there every week. Business is very good. Department stores have to learn first and fast. Customers are all richer, you couldn't give away cheap stuff anymore.

A story I like to teach people is that Shaw's tried to sell $0.29/lb turkey two X'mas ago. No one bought. When they raise the price to $1.29/lb; all the turkeys were sold right after X'mas. In merchandising, you have to know the per capita income.

Good luck on this investment, you'll need it.
