NeTpower takes performance lead with delivery of dual Pentium II 300MHz systems
Cheetah drives help fuel superior systems performance
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 1997--NeTpower, the Windows NT(R) systems company, today announced delivery and general availability of SYMETRA2(TM) 300MHz dual Pentium(R) II processor workstations.
NeTpower, continuing to lead the market in price/performance solutions, is the first to extend the performance lead of Pentium II- based systems in markets traditionally held by UNIX system vendors. SYMETRA2 is currently the only 300MHz workstation available on the market today that is Microsoft(R) Windows NT 4.0 certified.
Now MCAD professionals, digital media artists, and Web content creators can achieve even higher levels of interactivity, insight, and realism in their designs and models while utilizing an industry standard platform design. Preliminary 300MHz benchmark results demonstrate application performance improvements of more than 33% over other Pentium Pro-based systems.
``NeTpower's ability to recognize different leading-edge technologies, integrate them quickly into our solutions set and be the first to deliver to our customers, continues to prove a winning strategy,'' said Dave Ludvigson, president of NeTpower. ``Our customers continually look to us to provide the best-of-breed solutions available.''
NeTpower compliments this 300MHz announcement with the availability of Seagate's 4GB Cheetah 10,000 RPM SCSI disk drives. The Cheetah drive is the highest random I/O transaction performance disc drive available today. The 10,000 RPM drive provides unmatched performance for demanding read/write applications such as graphics visualization and non-linear video editing.
``Disk throughput is a key element in providing users improved application performance. The performance achieved by the Seagate Cheetah complements the processing and graphics performance of the SYMETRA2,'' said Del Hunter, director of technical marketing at NeTpower.
Application level benchmarks have demonstrated that the Cheetah drive can deliver up to 50% higher performance, compared to previous Ultra SCSI disk drives.
Microsoft HCL certification of NeTpower 300MHz SYMETRA2 workstations ensures compatibility with popular MCAD, digital media, and web serving and authoring applications. Each SYMETRA2 is pre-configured with Windows NT 4.0 and is rigorously tested prior to shipment to ensure customer reliability.
SYMETRA2 can be configured with any of NeTpower's TRUEfx(TM) or ULTRAfx(TM) graphics subsystems, high-performance OpenGL-based 3D graphics accelerators that have been optimized for Windows NT. TRUEfx and ULTRAfx deliver high-performance texture-mapped 3D graphics, including Gouraud shading, depth buffering, anti-aliasing and alpha blending. Each system supports a minimum of true color at 1280x1024 resolution.
Pricing and Availability
SYMETRA2 is available now and list pricing begins at $8,815 for a base configuration that includes a single 300MHz Pentium II processor, 64 MB EDO/ECC RAM, one 2GB Ultra Wide SCSI-3 disk drive, and a TRUEfx 3D graphics card. Each system is pre-installed with Windows NT version 4.0 and comes standard with one 10/100 Base-TX fast networking PCI-based card, one Ultra Wide external SCSI-3 controller, SoundBlaster Audio, one flexible disk drive, and a 12X CD- ROM drive.
