This[SOI] sounds just "perfect" for AMD to pursue, they always do like the "hype". <ggg>

There has long been a unjustified assumption that IBM has some super process technology hiding in their labs that will save AMD's bacon if they can just get ahold of it and port the Athlon to it. Fact is IBM has no super process that is available for high volume manufacturing and the products coming out of IBM fabs are embarrassingly lagging in performance compared to even AMD's no longer state of the art process. More and more companies are realizing what Intel said 2 years ago. SOI isn't worth the trouble and Intel is already shipping product at twice the MHz on .18u Aluminum technology and higher speeds are still coming from that on longer leading edge process. SOI will not save the day for AMD.
