Re.: ABB, ALS, RYCEY (Alstom and Rolls-Royce). This just about some companies in Euroland I watch involved in energy/defense and power, etc. I still need to complete my DD on these before I confirm I will buy em, but sales improvement is rare for some in the power sector; so here goes with my latest findings. You may not be interested, but ALS (alstom) sales improvement was fair. My read for order backlog seems improved. Somewhat lower debt and picked up rest of ABB Power this year. ABB improving slightly also(FWIW). ALS sales up in power and transport in Americas and Europe, lower in Asia. Does largely rail/airport systems and mid-sized turbines. Their large turbines GT 24/26 still unproven with some technical problems; such that I have yet to feel comfortable with any large buy, as of yet. If the large turbines show any sales improvement, the stock price will improve quickly; just as the fall after news of large turbine troubles last year killed the share price so quickly. Need to find out additional about the large turbines to be sure of what I will do on any large basis, but I have the thing on my alerts list. Just a foreign security worth keeping an eye on.
Same for Rolls Royce. ALS and RYCEY quotes on Bloomberg, if no where else. As to Rolls: jury still out on the turn-around I wait for patiently. Some improvement in outlook IMO for Rolls, with nice dividend.
I am wanting to buy some of one or both, when I am sure of a trend in sales/profit. Rolls has an excellent chance to do well with the EuroFighter program and is engine manuf for BA on its large engines, if and when. Just thought to let you know what I look for in the defense/ energy arena. Engines/turbines are a definite market to watch(JMHO).
Holding ready for the mother of buy opps? Not so sure here, if a rally in this end of year will hold up long term. Our bear market may continue years not months. Thinking my long term buys will be after substantial improvement is seen in the 3 year charts of the S&P and DOW (other than the PMs, of course).
Still holding Tyson on tight stop limit. Still rising so I'm letting it grope it's way along the yellow brick road. Maybe Goldcorp will help leave some crumbs on the trail, so the chickens do not get lost on their way to market. May your gold/silvers prosper and make you glad you got em.
