Flair,

The NT growth rate has been phenomenal. I believe that unit shipments of NT exceeded those of Unix within the past six months or so. With these kind of volumes involved, you are certainly on target to forecast that, inevitably, the Unix EDA tools will be on NT.

Another interesting question is whether some of the lower volume Unix players will start losing some of the EDA tools (in terms of new versions not being provided). Since the Unix market is fractured so much, and NT is growing so rapidly, the EDA tools vendors may well decide to invest more money in NT capabilities, at the expense of the lower volume Unix variants. Similar things have happened with other operating systems in the past.

Best regards,
Arno
