There is NO data available that suggests the worm is turning.
Just a few examples of folks with a different view:
Intel: "The computer industry has bottomed out. That in itself tells you that you're looking at when it's gonna take off," Craig Barrett told Reuters.
STM: "For semiconductors, I think the bottom is the third quarter, and we will see a bounce back in the fourth quarter," said Pistorio. "There will still be excess capacity in the industry, so price pressure will continue to be strong," he added.
Pistorio based his forecast on reports that excess inventories are diminishing for products such as cellular phones. In addition, "The indications our customers are giving us is that they want more products in the fourth quarter than in the third quarter, and we are assuming they have reasonable visibility by now," Pistorio said.
RFMD: Mr. Norbury continued, "In our fiscal 2002 first quarter earnings release and conference call last week, we were pleased to report better-than-forecasted sequential revenue growth for the June quarter in spite of a very challenging macro environment. Given our improved visibility, increased design activity and relative strength within the industry, we continue to expect near-term revenue growth and market share gains for the September quarter. "Specifically, we anticipate September revenues will increase approximately ten percent sequentially, and, as I indicated on our conference call last week, we are very pleased to be fully booked to reach that goal. We also continue to expect to return to profitability in the second half of the calendar year, as our revenue growth continues and margin improvement programs proceed. Finally, given the information currently available, we continue to expect to post year-over-year revenue growth for fiscal 2002, ending March 31, 2002."
CMCSK: "Comcast clearly outperformed its cable peers in Q2, showing sequential increases in digital cable and high speed data net adds," said Wit SoundView analyst Jordan Rohan.
Digital cable subscribers rose 200,900 during the quarter to 1.84 million, compared with an increase of 158,900 during the first quarter. The company also added 103,300 high-speed data subscribers during the quarter, bringing the total to 675,600. In the first quarter, Comcast added 90,100 subscribers. |
