5.25 inch drives stayed around in machines which had both 3.5 and 5.25 inch drives. There was no reason to replace the 5.25, when you could simply add the 3.5.

Same with the Zip. Why should you replace the floppy drive with a LS-120, when you can just add a Zip? The combination of a Zip and a floppy costs less than one LS-120, and it's more convenient.
