I saw the same study, and found it interesting at the time. But not really surprising.

As I recall, the researchers didn't give any reason, but posited theories, the prime one of which seemed to be that the kind of people willing to do "test drive" relationships tended to have beliefs and principles which were less conducive to long term commitments. I put that badly, but that was their theory, or one of their theories.
