This statement and others like it continue to baffle me. How it is possible for a computer (that is, not a dumb terminal of the 60s and 70s) to function without an OS? Maybe some tech guru here can explain it to me. I've always thought that the OS was necessary to at least allow the CPU to communicate with the peripherals that are connected to it. Without an OS the CPU is essentially deaf, dumb, and blind, no? How will a browser run on a CPU if the CPU can't see the browser code on the harddisk?
