Parts of a presentation dating from last November that showed cross sections of AMD produced SOI SRAMS were seen recently at a german web site.

It was after they had produced those sample wafers that AMD dropped their original .13 roadmap and substituted one that incorporated SOI.

Right or wrong, AMD's management was clearly stunned by the gains they saw from SOI. Stunned enough to halt the current Dresden expansion while they built a FAB expansion on the roof of their (let's face it) only profitable facility, stunned enough to delay just about everything they had going for 6 months.

They must have seen some very impressive performance gains.
