Paine was a Deist(for whom we add was the literary spark that got the fire rolling with his great work,"Common Sense"),Ben Franklin was a Deist and Thomas Jefferson was a Deist.To name a few of our Founding Fathers who were NOT fundamentalist Christians by any stretch of the imagination.
That is why separation of church and state was a sacrament to them.
These men were the crowning of the age of Enlightment,that being the light is within our own selves,common sense and reason--in all men/women REGARDLESS of race , religion or nationality.Max
P.S.Tom Delay and his ilk are an insult to the founding fathers.
