Sen. Torricelli's (D-NJ) Indicment Would Again Tilt Balance of Power in Senate

UPDATE

AheadNews.com learned that attorneys for Sen. Robert Torricelli have been authorized to put a deal on the table that would have the Senator from New Jersey stepping down from the United States Senate in exchange for no hard jail time. This blockbuster story will change the balance of power once again in Washington and is the reason for the delay on the announcement of the indictment for the sitting Senator. Prosecutors are still dicussing what to do about this incredible, stunning last minute turn of events and a decision could come as soon as Tuesday.

President Bush and Karl Rove see an opportunity to swing the balance and pick up a seat in the Senate with the ethics difficulties for Sen. Torricelli. The story inside the White House is that Bush has called on Cabinet Secretary Christine Todd Whitman to enter the New Jersey Senate race either in a special election to contest the seat in Sen. Torricelli's absence, or in the 2002 election cycle. Since the former Governor and Vice Presidential hopeful is hestitant to give an answer on another all out political fight in New Jersey versus a comfy cabinet position, Karl Rove has decided to pull out all the stops to regain control of the Senate and the national agenda . Secretly, The Presdient of the United States has placed a phone call to, flat tax advocate, Steve Forbes as a back up plan in case Whitman does not run. Bush desperately wants a high profile name in the NJ Senate contest and is prepared to offer Forbes enticements at the Republican National Committee level to help him on another presdiental bid with finanical support and endorsements if this favor is done. This is absolutely Karl Rove's #1 priority during the summer, to regain control of the Senate, which so many people blame the top presidential advisor for not doing enough to prevent the Jeffords' switch.

AheadNews.com has learned that Federal Prosecutors in New York have scheduled a press conference on Monday, July 9th. It is expected that they have indicted New Jersey Senator Robert Toricelli. AheadNews.com was the first to break the story of Sen. Torricelli's pending indicment after the Indepence Day Congressional recess. Still not known exactly what he will be charged with.
