Actually, this would not be all that far ahead of schedule. Typically it takes about a year between tapeout and shipment. Since AMD has already stated that Clawhammer is 105mm2 (previously they claimed under 100mm2), it could be that tapeout was several months ago, indeed in Q1. The fact that this is also the quarter in which the plans for a bulk silicon variant of Hammer was cancelled however, would seem to indicate that, at the very least, major problems were found at tapeout.
