To Bruce & others on the name Amati:

You were right to think that the name came from the great violin makers. John Cioffi was nice enough to e-mail me this reply:

"The original concept behind the name is that Amati taught quality in the manufacture of musical instruments, namely violins, to the major manufacturers of the time. The other co-founders hung the name on me because I was a teacher, a musician, and was selling quality in the ADSL/DSL area. The name stuck quickly and has unusual recognition for a company of our size."

"Good Luck with the stock,"

John Cioffi (7/2/96)

I never could afford an Amati or a Stradivarius as violins but now I have a modern day opportunity--both as a stock & a modem.
