Re: Price discounts to OEM

You need to read your own source material. Buried in the article is a statement that both Intel and AMD are giving discounts to OEM's over white box makers.

"In a report issued last week, Merrill Lynch analyst Joe Osha said that while it has been the norm for Intel and rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to offer bigger discounts to higher-volume OEMs, they are stepping up price breaks for large customers even more."

The reason for the focus on OEM's is easy to understand. That is where the volume exists, not the relative onesy twosy's of the white box houses.

Do you think that AMD could stuff the channel with 1.6 million processors in cooperation with a couple white box makers? But AMD could and did work with one or two OEM's to pull in the end of June sales to make a still dismal Q2.
