Do you know anything about the current state of brain research? If not, you should look into it before making statements which contradict current neurobiological findings.

Fact is, the areas of the brain which are involved in decision making, and particularly those areas which have to do with empathy and understanding how your decisions affect others, are the slowest to develop, and aren't yet fully developed in 17 year olds, particularly 17 year old males since male brains are a bit behind female brains in their development. So no matter what you teach them, biologically 17 year olds are no more ready for competence in decision making than ten year olds are ready to pitch in the majors. It's a simple matter of biological development.

Do your research.
