I will indulge in a little clarification. When one says that "under 18 is iffy", it means it is not a good idea, and should be discouraged. When, for example, milk is "iffy" in my house, that generally means it will be poured down the sink. When one contrasts that with "under 16", it means that under 16 is worse, and more worth fighting over. It is not a question of being a "pal", but of where lines are to be drawn firmly, and when the danger of alienation, distrust, and unwillingness to confide and seek advice is greater than the hope of succeeding in drawing a firm line........
