I think that the reason of a possible delay of i845 based motherboards would be that Intel wants to launch the 2 GHz P4 on a good platform first, thereby creating the image of a world-class, performance leading processor. Once that image is created, the P4 can be sold on a low-priced, underperforming platform and almost nobody will notice the severe drop in performance.

If the i845 will be launched prior to or at the same time as the 2 GHz P4, initial reviews may be made with these both together, that means with the combination of a P4 2000 and a i845 motherboard. Then the reviewers might complain about the disappointing performance and the P4 might get the image of an underperforming chip.
