I doubt if even the people you had in mind are monolithic- but maybe they are. I never dreamed there were so many people that would agree on certain extreme (as I see them) conservative stances, and then I came to SI. Whoooeee. I grew up in Orange Country and thought I had seen it all. So maybe their are bastions of liberalism just as extreme. But even in Berkeley I met diverse liberals. Really diverse liberals.
