Milo,

"I've only had one person on IGNORE for the last year. The list is growing. Soon this thread will be a Yahoo clone.
Sad indeed.

Someone remind me again why Mani formed this thread????"

Milo, very true! Until recently, I didn't have any person on ignore. I even had decided to live with Paul's often annoying posts. (Consequently, I had voted against his suspension.) But since the arrival of Yousef and others the ignore feature is almost a necessity. Their behavior is not only childish but simply provocative with the sole intention to reduce the quality of this thread and make any reasonable discussion impossible. - A far cry from serious criticism by highly respected people like Kash or Tenchusatsu.

A real problem is that the ignore feature only works for registered members. All the ordinary visitors ("lurkers") have to deal with the flood of childish, highly provocative and purely destructive posts. How many lurkers are still around here? How many people want to wade through these sub-standard posts? I can imagine that the general reputation of this thread has been suffering big time since it has become, as you rightly say, almost a Yahoo clone.

I think we should seriously think about a solution to this problem. Either we should change the rules (and enforce them!) or start a new thread - in which any kind of serious criticism remains highly welcome, of course, but in which no posters are allowed who OBVIOUSLY don't want to contribute ANYTHING serious to the thread and have the pure and simple intention to start flame wars, make other people ridiculous and hinder any useful discussion.

One last remark: I think that Mani has done a very good job and we all should thank him for that. Therefore, starting a new thread could only be an ultima-ratio-solution. We should rather try to do something to preserve the - high - quality of this thread.

Peter
