Re: Flynn effect. Kids who are raised in "rich" environments have higher IQs than kids who aren't. By rich, I don't mean money, I mean books, crafts, art, music, museum trips, trips to zoos, trips to planetariums, toys, even television.
I read to my boys when they were little all the time, every day, but they both started reading spontaneously when they were three. I think they learned the alphabet by watching Sesame Street. Swear to God. The developmental psych books I was reading said "don't push them" so I didn't. Yeah, they have high IQs, but I think the "rich" environment I provided made a lot of difference.
We were "frequent fliers" at the Smithsonian, and every aquarium and zoo and museum and historical landmark within reach. Not to mention bookstores and libraries. I don't think it's surprising that kids keep getting smarter - they've got access to all the knowledge of the universe, here online. |
