Cost of ownership is not the end all anymore.
First costs count for much more now, with companies desperate to save capital. If EMC cuts the price of it's products to or below NTAP's then NTAP will have to respond with a similar cut, it's simple business. Please don't tell me how superior NTAP's products are to EMC's, I own enough shares to know. EMC is trying to turn the NAS market into a commodity price only matters environment. I'm not certain that NTAP is or will be immune to that.


First off in surveys, price isn't the #1 factor when it comes to buying storage. Second, NTAP will have DAFS and WAFL to differentiate its products from EMCs. This could provide some pricing power..
