SoftNet & PCC Team On $129 Million Asian Joint Venture 10/13/99 HONG KONG, CHINA, 1999 OCT 13 (NB) -- By staff, IT Daily. Pacific Century CyberWorks has invested US$129 in Nasdaq-listed SoftNet Systems to help develop broadband Internet, cable modem, and satellite projects.

PCCW, the Hong Kong-based broadband networking company controlled by Richard Li's Pacific Century Group will invest $129 million to buy 5 million shares in SoftNet.

The two companies have agreed to form a joint venture called Pacific Century SoftNet, which will market products and services to cable operators in 63 countries serving 110 million Asian cable households.

The joint venture will give PCCW the expertise to build networks for prospective cable partners. It will also extend the reach of PCCW's converged Internet and video service to 2.4 million homes currently contracted to SoftNet, while marketing SoftNet's Intellicom VSAT (very small aperture terminal) capability to customers in the 63 countries of PCCW's service area.
