I went to Amazon the other day to buy 3 books. The one I need immediately, so I added it to my cart. The other two had links that showed that someone was selling used copies of these books. I looked at this option 6 months ago, and it seemed I would have to open a new account with these people directly, and could not go through Amazon for it, so I lost interest. This time, if I understood correctly, Amazon was gonna handle the money, and I could use my account with them. The only difference from buying it straight from AMZN was, I could not include the used purchase in the same shopping cart. So, I finished the Amazon purchase, and went back to buy the used books. And they were gone! This is at midnight in CA.
So, did Amazon, seeing that I was willing to buy a new book, cut me off from the used book? They have been known to offer different prices to people, based on their past buying record. Or, did the books sell, or did I misunderstand, and those used books were not actually for sale? (If you look at the page, I might get confused the first time I look, because they always talk about selling used books now, too.) Well, I don't know for sure, but I'll watch for this in the future.
But, here's the punchline - talking w/ Glenn about eBay, I checked and found those books available there, too.
And I won both auctions.
