Re: One retailer reported that of about 500 Thunder K7’s sold to date (a combination of S2462NG and S2462UNG), there have been a number of minor issues, and four serious problems... the problem with the board using the wrong FSB speed seems to boil down to a combination of user error and a sloppy manual

That's a less than 1% rate of serious problems - and on a brand new platform.

Intel SMP systems I've worked with over the years (about 50 systems, mostly Supermicro and Intel, with a smaller number of Tyan, Asus, and MSI boards) have had serious problems on more than 5% of the boards.

The reliability record AMD's first effort is terrific, about 5 times as good as Intel's, and explains why the number of vendors offering these systems keeps increasing even though the pricing of the systems has remained high.

It's no wonder the Intel propaganda machine is running at full speed in an attempt to discredit this product - it is a server platform substantially superior to anything Intel has been able to produce. It also explains why a panicky Intel slashed the prices of its server chips by 2/3's.
