Re: why AMD is predicting

AMD didn't predict a Q3 loss, they warned that if the PC markets stayed slow, and the price war between them and Intel intensified, a loss was possible.

Right now, Intel and AMD have each sunk their teeth into the other's throats.

Look at what has been happening to working capital at both companies and you'll see that AMD is bleeding slightly and Intel is bleeding quite a bit.

For Q3, AMD has entered the mobile market in a significant way, and for Q4 they will enter the workstation/server market in a significant way. AMD may do a little more bleeding, but Intel is going to be hemorrhaging Billions.

Watch what happens. The one thing that has been keeping Intel afloat has been corporate buyer's willingness, out of sheer laziness and momentum, to pay quite high prices for obsolete PIII systems. The accelerated transition to P4 removes that benefit from Intel and let's the ASP decline accelerate.
